Veneers are extremely versatile, and can disguise many imperfections, from mis-aligned to chipped or stained teeth. This versatility combined with their instant smile-boosting effect, is the reason why they are so often featured on TV makeover programmes.
We need to prepare the tooth or teeth, so you will usually be given a local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and the area around it.
We will need to take an impression, or mould, of the area around the tooth or teeth to be treated. This is used by a skilled dental technician, who will craft your veneer so that it is a perfect fit.
We will then remove a very thin layer from the front of your teeth to make space for the veneer.
Once the tooth preparation is complete, we will fit temporary veneers. Once your new veneers are ready, we will bond them in place with a special dental cement.
Your veneers may feel a little strange for a few days as they are unlikely to be exactly the same size and shape as your original tooth or teeth. However, you will soon become used to them, and soon it should be unnoticeable. If it does feel uncomfortable, please speak to us and we will check it for you.
Veneers can last for many years, but it is important that you care for them properly. As with your natural teeth, this means brushing twice a day and cleaning around the sides and under the gumline – we will advise you on the best way to do this.
It is also important to see the hygienist on a regular basis as recommended by your dentist.
