Is Teeth Whitening Effective?

Teeth whitening is fast becoming one of the most common cosmetic treatments used by celebrities due to the fact it is a relatively simple yet highly effective method of improving our smile. However because it is affordable and also accessible in reputable high street dental practices, it is something which many of us are turning to so as to improve our appearance. If you’re wondering whether teeth whitening is effective, the answer is yes – provided it is carried out by a qualified and reputable professional.

Here’s the lowdown on the teeth whitening treatment we offer at Southview Dental Care actually work:

At Home Teeth Whitening

An at home teeth whitening treatment is a common option for patients who are happy to follow the instructions given by our team and are able to apply the gel regularly for between 7 and 10 days. We will create a set of bespoke gel trays which look like mouthguards and are comfortable enough to be worn overnight.

Each evening you will be required to apply gel to the inside of the gel trays, before fitting the trays onto your teeth before bed. The trays can then be removed in the morning, and after 7 to 10 days you will start to see a noticeable difference in the appearance of your teeth. Whilst the treatment is simple, it can do wonders for your self-confidence and even win you some new admirers.

It’s quite normal to find that your teeth are more sensitive that they usually are during treatment, and often for a few days afterwards. However, these symptoms soon disappear and you can fully enjoy your new smile.

Aftercare is also important in order to maintain the new whiteness of your teeth – careful brushing of the teeth for two minutes twice a day and visiting our hygienist as and when required will help to ensure that your teeth will stay beautifully white for as long as possible.

If you are interested in teeth whitening, the first step is to speak to the experts and find out whether your teeth are suitable for whitening. To arrange for a consultation with our dentists, you can call Southview Dental Care today on 01732 865021.
